The Tidewater Team for Improving Mathematics is looking forward to working with you this summer, beginning with the Math 535: Number and Number Sense course. This course focuses on providing teachers with the content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge needed to foster the development of number and number sense throughout the primary grade levels (K - 2). The key components of number and number sense include deep understanding of and proficiency with whole numbers and fractions. In addition, an awareness of the uses of numbers in the world around us, a good sense of approximation, estimation, and magnitude, the concept of numeration, and an understanding of comparisons and equivalence of different representations and forms of numbers will be included.

In order to provide you with the necessary tools used in fostering the development of number and number sense throughout the primary grade levels, we have put together a team of instructors. These instructors will use manipulatives, activities, and other various instructional methods to assist in equipping you and your students within a mathematics based lesson. These instructors are listed below with their William & Mary contact information.
